Chairman of the Board
Alfred Schwan is the brother of the company’s founder and serves as chairman of the board. Through the years, his involvement has been critical to the company’s success. He played a major role in the company’s 1970 purchase of the pizza plant in Salina, Kansas. The facility has since grown from about a dozen employees to more than 1,500 and is among the larger pizza production facilities in the world.
During World War II, he served as a pilot in the U.S. Navy. In 1946, he married his wife, Doris, and soon after became an industrial engineer with Deere & Co. He joined the family business in 1964, serving as the director of manufacturing for the entire corporation. His past duties also have included serving as president and chief executive officer of the company.
