CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP

The Schwan Food Company constantly seeks to improve the quality of life for its more than 17,000 subsidiary employees and the communities where they live. We accomplish this goal through community involvement, creating sustainable programs and by sponsorships and events.

From charitable giving and educational involvement to sponsorships of youth and amateur sports, Schwan strives to be a  part of each community we are in.

COMMUNITY HEADQUARTERS

The Schwan Food Company understands the importance of healthy communities and strives to support organizations that help make this happen. In the fall of 2010, the company matched employee contributions of more than $110,000 that went to United Way affiliates in southwestern Minnesota; Salina, Kansas; Atlanta and Houston.

The company promotes a jean day program in Marshall, Minnesota, that invites employees to donate $1 for the privilege of wearing casual attire on Fridays. The company also matches these donations to double the impact it brings. Since the program was started in 1998, more than $700,000 has been raised for local charities.

Subsidiaries of The Schwan Food Company have donated thousands of pounds of food to Feeding America (formerly America’s Second Harvest) affiliates and support their communities in the ways they can.

EDUCATION

Education has been important to the company since the beginning. Since the early 1980s Schwan has supported Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall and created the Al Schwan Fund for Excellence at Kansas State University. From the local to national and international levels, the company has been involved with Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), in various ways like charitable dollars, internship opportunities and by having executives and senior management serving as judges at SIFE competitions.

The company also funds scholarships for the children and grandchildren of employees of Schwan subsidiaries through Dollars for Scholars and supports Dollars for Scholars scholarships at various schools in southwest Minnesota. Scholarships have also been created for students attending Southwest Minnesota State University.

SUSTAINABILITY

The Schwan Food Company understands the importance of sustainable practices. Each day, the subsidiaries and their employees work to find new ways to reduce the impact they have on the environment.

From implementing lean practices to finding ways to reduce material usage in packaging and eliminate waste in production, Schwan knows that sustainability starts with us.
